Our Methodology

How We Test

Every mattress we review is purchased at full price and tested in our sleep lab for 30+ nights. We measure pressure distribution, motion transfer, and temperature regulation — and we sleep on them.

Scoring Criteria

Every product receives a score from 0 to 10 based on weighted criteria. Here is exactly how we calculate it.

Comfort & Support

35%

We test with sleepers across body types (120-280 lbs) and sleep positions (side, back, stomach, combo). Pressure mapping reveals support zones and potential pain points.

Durability & Materials

25%

We evaluate foam density, spring gauge, cover quality, and certifications (CertiPUR-US, OEKO-TEX). Durability is projected based on material analysis and 1,000-cycle roller testing.

Value

20%

We compare price-per-night over expected lifespan, trial periods, warranty terms, and return policies. We track price drops and flag misleading MSRP claims.

Temperature & Motion

20%

We measure surface temperature over 8 hours using thermal sensors. Motion transfer is tested with a partner simulation rig (dropping a 15-lb weight and measuring disturbance).

Tools & Equipment

The tools we use to produce consistent, reproducible results.

  • XSENSOR pressure mapping system
  • Thermal sensors for temperature tracking (8-hour cycles)
  • Motion transfer measurement rig
  • 1,000-cycle roller durability tester
  • Multiple sleeper panel (side, back, stomach, combo — various body types)

Independence Pledge

  • No sponsored rankings. Our scores are never influenced by advertising or affiliate relationships.
  • We buy everything ourselves. Products are purchased at retail price with our own funds. No vendor-supplied review units.
  • Affiliate transparency. We earn commissions from some links. This funds our testing but never affects our scores. Full disclosure.
  • Corrections policy. If we get something wrong, we update the article with a visible correction notice and date.

Update Cadence

Mattress reviews are updated with model refreshes. Sleep tech is re-tested every 6 months. Price tracking runs daily.

Every article shows its publish date and last update date. If a review is more than 6 months old without an update, we flag it as potentially outdated.
